Trauma-informed approaches to supporting caregivers and care recipients-C
This training module on trauma-informed care for older adults and family caregivers was developed from work currently being done at VA Boston by psychologist Dr. Kelly O’Malley, social worker Lola Baird, and psychologist Dr. Jennifer Moye. This team also wants to thank the Stress, Health, and Aging Research Program (SHARP) and psychologists Drs. Hannah Bashian, Jennifer Daks, and Anica Pless Kaiser and RN Anna Etchin who closely collaborate with Drs. O’Malley & Moye and Ms. Baird. This work was supported by the VA’s Office of Rural Health, VA Office of Research and Development, New England Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center, and the National Center for PTSD. Learning Objectives
- Describe and recognize trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder in older adults
- Help older adults with history of trauma and their families engage with care and services
- Provide caregivers with information and strategies to help older adults with both dementia and trauma history
