4Ms Medication for Clinicians
Older adults are at greater risk for medical illness and often are prescribed medications to treat or slow the progression of illness. While taking many medications may be indicated for some older adults, there are potential risks. Medication use in older adults is a complex balance between what matters to the older adult, managing disease, and avoiding medication-related problems. More than half of older adults regularly take five or more medications including over-the-counter medications and supplements. Older adults experience more medication-related problems than younger adults.
