Understanding the Needs of Older Adults in Crisis

These seven modules were created by the E4 Center to provide basic training to professionals who encounter older adults in-person who may be in crisis. These modules on Ageism, Cognition, Common Life Issues, Depression & Anxiety, Substance Use, Suicide, and Life Crises identify issues unique to older adults that all professionals should know to best meet the needs of older adults and their caregivers. Each module is 15-20 minutes in length.

Learning Objectives

After completing this module, learners will be able to:

  • Utilize practical strategies for communicating with older adults in crisis
  • List unique risk factors for older adult suicide, substance use, anxiety and depression
  • Identify common life issues and life crises that impact older adult functioning
  • Recognize ways that ageism impacts everyone
